Shadows of Rome: Werewolf Tribes

Blood Talons

Legends

Lodges

  • Lodge of Garm: The Germannic Lodge of Garm, named for the war god Tiuw's fated adversary, is perhaps the only solid threat to the Pure Tribes in northern Europe. Despite their Germannic name, the lodge extends from Germannia, to Gaul, and even into Britannia where they fight the Pure Tribes and the Roman vampires tirelessly. They are some of the fiercest anti-Roman voices in cross-tribal councils, seeing war against the Empire as a way to prove themselves.
  • Lodge of Swords: Many believe that Gaul is pacified, but this is far from true. The Swordbearers of this lodge have actively fought for the good of the people in this region and beyond. They fought alongside Vercingetorix against Caesar and alongside Viriathus in Hispania, but also against the Babylonians in Judaea and the Persions at Thermopylae before that. With their understanding of both war and politics they are perhaps the best suited of the Uratha to succeed in the Roman Empire.
  • Lodge of Geri: In the far north lies a land barely known by the Romans, a frozen land of glaciers and fjords. In Scandanavia, a silent war is waged between the merciless Pure Tribes and the Lodge of Geri. These Blood Talons take as their patron Geri the Ravenous, mate of Fenrir-Ur and companion of the god Odin. Like the protective mother wolf, the Lodge of Geri fight not for glory but for righteousness and they seek nothing less than the destruction of the Pure. They have begun to bring this fight south as well to Germannia and Gaul to fight the Pure Tribes in new lands. (Note, this lodge is imported across the North Sea with the Vikings and becomes the Lodge of Wendigo in the modern era).

Bone Shadows

Legends

Lodges

  • Lodge of Prophecy: The oracle of Apollo at Delphi known as Pythia is just one of many oracles in the ancient lands of Greece. The Bone Shadows of the Lodge of Prophecy have long memories and many secrets. They have lasted through the Persians, through the wars between Athens and Sparta, through Alexander's Macedonians, and through the Roman conquests and wars with Philip V. Through all of this they watch and wait, and they will surely survive the current chaos as well.
  • Lodge of Harbingers: A counterpoint to the always-removed Lodge of Prophecy, the Harbingers are concerned with modern prophecy and signs. Located throughout Italia, Greece, and Asia Minor, they hunt for ancient legends and predictions, hoping to learn what the current chaos and religious storms will bring for the People.
  • Lodge of Death: The grim Bone Shadows of the Lodge of Death follow the example of Orpheus, descending into the Underworld in search of things lost. They are found in Greece and Egypt where death is near and the spirits of the dead are kept close, but they also claim territories close to Rome where they can petition the dead buried in the Romans' large mausoleums. The dead multiply everywhere with Rome almost constantly at civil war for the past century and the Bone Shadows who follow the Spirit of the Ashes have their work cut out for them.

Hunters in Darkness

Legends

Lodges

  • Lodge of Harmony: The Sulukka follow the armies of Rome, but they are no camp followers or battlefield scavengers. As the emperor's forces enter an area, sacking and looting, they despoil the land around them and destroy local places of power. The usual strategy of a Roman force is efficient and direct: find out what the enemy values, march towards it, and burn or kill until the enemy comes to you. This may be cities, farmlands, or royal harems but often they are religious sites built on loci of power. The Hunters of the Lodge of Harmony attempt to repair this damage, one of the only draws that can pull Mennina out of the wilderness in large numbers.
  • Lodge of Seasons: The Mennina of the Lodge of Seasons are strongly in tune with the seasons. Most in the Roman Empire have a strong dependence on season since they are restricted in travel and food based on the season, but those of the Lodge of Seasons seek to embody Gaia's nature in their manner. They are strong in Gaul, Britannia, and Germany where the seasons are felt most powerfully and strive to remind the people of those provinces of the ancestral ways instead of the new Roman customs.
  • Lodge of Wrath: Most of the Hunters in Darkness have little interest in politics, but those of the Lodge of Wrath are actively concerned with the state of kingdoms in Europe. They see the cities and roads spreading across the continent as affronts to the natural way and they raid Roman settlements nearly constantly in retaliation. The Romans are not the only ones to turn from the natural ways, however, and they are quick to fall on Gauls, Dacians, or Africans who become "too much of the city."

Iron Masters

Legends

Lodges

  • Lodge of Metal: Because they promote themselves as shamans of metalworking, many see the Lodge of Metal as uncomfortably close to the Roman culture. The Dacians are superior armorers and the Gauls finer smiths but the Romans are the architects and engineers and metalworking is seen as indelible mark they leave on the landscape. It is also a useful tool against them, however, and the Lodge of Metal prefers to wrest control of metal spirits away from the Romans rather than resist them.
  • Lodge of Scrolls: The Romans are keen on keeping records but this does not generally extend beyond their own culture. They categorize, they dissect, they degrade, but they do not preserve. If the cultures of conquered people are not going to be lost in the noise of Roman civilization, it will be native scholars who do it and the Lodge of Scrolls strives to save the old ways from being lost in conquest, writing or stealing from the Romans' own archives to do it.

Storm Lords

Legends

Lodges

  • Lodge of Crows: The manipulative Crows use their political acumen to pull strings throughout the Empire. They are particularly active in the eastern provinces(the Balkans, the Asian provinces, and Judaea) where they have influenced the ascension of emperors and generals to positions of power to affect Roman politics. Despite their early successes with Vespasian and others, the political machine has gotten out of control and any succession has been a thing of chaos for decades.
  • Lodge of Thunder: Ruling through force and might, the Lodge of Thunder has been responsible for resurgences throughout Roman provinces. The Storm Lords have little interest in Roman rule, possibly because they seek power and that is a hierarchy completely denied to them. Instead they focus on tribal lands and make great names for themselves as local lords.
  • Lodge of Winter: Despite its name, the Lodge of Winter is very active in the provinces of Africa as well as the plains of Gaul. In Carthago Novo and Jerusalem, Winter Lords gather information and form plans to promote their native cultures over that of the Romans. In Gaul, the information being gathered is usually not the Romans but the Pure Tribes which lurk across the Rhine in the German forests and launch constant raids.
