Gatekeeper Leagues

The leagues of the Gatekeepers were collections of clans, united by family ties in many cases but also powerful central fortresses with strong rulers that held their regions together. The word "league" is a modern usage, the orcish word oorghal being too nuanced and also non-specific for scholarly purposes. Each league was an autonomous entity which fought each other as much as outside nations, though this changed significantly during the so-called Unison Period when their histories are best known. During the Unison Period, the orcish leagues forged strong internal alliances to resist Dhakaani occupation. These alliances eventually buckled under the pressure of the Dhakaani Empire, though their strong resistance as well as the goblins' own internal issues kept the orcish lands free until the devastating Wars of Corruption.
