Cult Of The Jackal Lord

What is this?

This campaign is set in Eberron in the nation of Droaam. It uses the 4th Edition of the Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game published by Wizards of the Coast. It takes place on the Real Adventures forums on the Wizards site.
The player characters are members of a group called the Bitter Hand which is based in the trading city of Graywall in Droaam. The group is connected to the Daughters of Sora Kell who rule Droaam, through the drow agent Elwist Missinal. They were called to meet with a messenger of the Daughters at the the Pickled Imp, a bar in the Bloodstone District.

Contacts and Reputation

The mechanics for contacts and reputation presented in the 3.5e book Unearthed Arcana and the d20 SRD are almost directly portable into this campaign.

The following table determines what level contact you have. Sometimes this will be a fully-fleshed out NPC but more likely they'll be an abstracted character who can help out according to the type of contact.

  • Information: Information contacts are useful for what they know. They are one-third the level of the PC and usually have trained skills which are knowledge skills (like Arcana, Religion, or Dungeoneering) or that rely on mental abilities (such as Insight or
  • Influence: Influence contacts are useful because of who they know or who they are associated with. They are one-third the level of the PC and usually trained in social skills like Bluff, Diplomacy, and Insight.
  • Skill: Skill contacts are useful for what they do. They are one-half the level of the PC and can be trained in a number of topics, often with a wide range of applicability.

Use column A if you have a class with the leader role. Use column B if you have Streetwise as a class skill. Use column C if you have a class with the Divine or Martial power sources, the least insular traditions in general. If you fit none of the other columns, use column D. If you fit more than one column, use the one farther to the left.

Likewise, reputation is a useful mechanic for the culture of Droaam where posturing and personal legend are as important as legitimate authority, if not more so. Use the table to the right to determine your base reputation bonus; this will be modified if you do noteworthy things, but it can affect NPCs negatively as well as positively.
Use column A if you have a class which uses the Primal power source. Use column B if you have a class which uses the Shadow or Psionic power source. Use column C if you have a class which uses the Martial power source. Use column D if you have a class which uses the Arcane or Divine power sources. If you have classes with multiple power sources, use the column farther to the right.
